1912 SEASON

A Review of the 1912 Season

Significantly for the first time in 1912 the Club’s address in Kelly’s Directory is shown as Forest Side, but how the Club came to gain use of the Pelham Ground is unknown.

1912 saw our match records slightly improved, with details of eight games available – and the fixture list starting to take a more familiar look with opposition now including the likes of Buckhurst Hill, Cheshunt, Edmonton, Highams Park and South Woodford (who incidentally played at the “rural” George Lane!)

This year saw yet another Cricket Club appear in Chingford, this time South Chingford CC, whose ground was at Rowden Park.

Results were as follows:

2nd XI

In these games only one half-century was recorded for Chingford – J Fudge scoring 80 v South Woodford, and he was the Club’s leading run scorer with 128 runs.

Not to be outdone, Willie Longden again was the leading wicket taker for Chingford with 13 wickets – although the season’s best analysis came from C Sheldon who took 5 wickets for the 2nd XI v Buckhurst Hill.
