We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of David Layton on 11 December.
Welshman David, affectionately known to everyone as "Merlin" or "DL" , was a very accurate left arm flat spinner who played for Chingford in 204 matches between 1969 and 1981. For The Club, David scored 1906 runs and took 354 wickets at just 19 apiece. He was the 1st xi leading wicket taker in 1977, 1978 and 1979.
David also played for The Chinghoppers (no. 537), North London Bakers and at the latter end of his career with Walthamstow CC
David had a lively personality and was always good humoured. He will be sadly missed.
The funeral will be at St Peter and St Paul Church, The Green Walk, Chingford E4 7EN on Friday 12 January at 12:30pm. Afterwards there will be a celebration of David's life at The Club.
