Details of these matches are rather sparse, but from what we know Don Spencer was the leading run scorer with 710 including 100 for the 1sts v Shoeburyness Garrison and 114 for the Sunday XI v Romford in a mammoth Chingford total of 382.

The boot was on the other foot, when on Sunday 28 June visitors Westcliff finally declared on 386-2 batting first!

Also amongst the runs was William Sandrock with 494, whilst Len Parslow hit 103 in the Cricket Week match with North London. Other centuries came in 2nd XI matches, Ernie Tonge hitting 125 v Cheshunt and 101* v Romford while Bill Carvell hit 100* v Broxbourne.

With the ball Gordon Downes took 53 wickets and Bill Adamson 50 - while the year’s best analysis came from Frank Harley with 7-40 for the 2nd XI v Walthamstow. Don Spencer picked up a hat-trick in the Sunday game v Barnstormers (a Club made up of mainly Beddington players)

Saturday 20 June saw the 2B Eleven take the trip to RAF North Weald. Chingford were dismissed for just 77, following which the RAF plundered 256-7 with Sargeant Jennings hammering the hapless Chingford bowlers for a massive 181!

The Players Meeting voted to discontinue Thursday Cricket which had been played for many years.

In these days the rules ensured that new players had to be approved at the Players Meeting before recommendation to the Annual General Meeting.

The Express and Independent reported in their 19 September 1931 edition:

During the summer months a number of local sports enthusiasts have attended the Chingford Cricket Ground at Forest Side regularly on Saturdays and Sundays to witness the matches of the town club. By their continued attendance during the winter months they will be rewarded with good sporting football for the Chingford Football Club playing on the same ground has prospects which are brighter than for the last season or two. Support at these matches will undoubtedly be fully appreciated.

The Tennis Section had a record of P12 W2 D3 L7 under Norman Tyrrell. The Cornish Challenge Cups were won by Miss H Woodall and James Wisbey, while the Pettingall-Norbury Mixed Doubles Trophy went to Mr and Mrs HN Butler.
