A Review of the 1924 Season
The 1924 season saw Len Pugh now as 1st XI Captain
Three Saturday Elevens were fielded for the first time, together with a Thursday Eleven and a Cricket Week which featured as opposition South Woodford, Buckhurst Hill, Mr Scarlett’s XI, The Bohemians and London Guarantee Insurance.

Norman Hood (108) and J Wisbey (105) scored the season’s only centuries, in the Thursday XI match with Authors.
An evenly matched 3rd eleven fixture v Walthamstow saw 15 minutes extra time played, to try and get a result !
Thursday 17 July saw the match v Rev Arthur M Batty (President’s) XI where the Guardian reported:
Lunch at this function – AE Curry toasted “The visitors” and the Rev AM Batty responded
On 19 July the 2s dismissed Claybury Mental Hospital for 15 – only 2 batsmen scored runs and J Gibbs got 13 of them !
On 9th August the 2s at home to Wanstead , (who according to The Guardian, fielded a very weak team of 9 men), and dismissed them for just 21 , Bill Adamson having a field day, taking 6-7.
After the 3rd XI game at home to ASA Banks on 23 August, a pleasing ceremony was performed by Mrs A Dagnall who presented an epergne beautifully decorated to Mr and Mrs Stan Kitchener (newlyweds) who smilingly expressed their thanks to the members of the Chingford Club.
