We have received the sad news of the passing of Amjad Mahmood and our sincere condolonces go out to his family.
Brother of Jamil Akhtar, Amjad played for Chingford between 2007 and 2014 and scored 1501 runs and took 29 wickets for the Club at the latter end of his career before a troublesome hip injury curtailed his playing days. He then turned to umpiring for a few years and was a regular figure officiating in the lower xis
Prior to joining Chingford Amjad excelled at both Walthamstow CC and South Woodford CC. Amjad had a unique batting style of wearing no gloves, but no-one ever saw him hit on the hand. He was a rock solid batsman, very difficult to get out (especially when appearing for the Wormcasts!) but would always put away the bad ball. Amjad was also a more than useful off spinner.
Amjad, you will be missed by everyone at Chingford.
