Orsett v Chingford Cricket Club Sat 5th on Sat 05 Jun 2010 at 1:00
Chingford Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets

Match report After the disappointment of the previous weeks game against Harlow being called of at the last minute, the 5th’s were raring to go. A strong team was available for the trip to Orsett and despite the traffic jam on the M25 and some dodgy TomTom direction (always remember to update your maps!), we managed to make it almost on time.
The captains ability to win the toss failed him for once and the 5th’s were asked to field on a very hot afternoon. A high scoring match was predicted as the boundaries were rather lopsided. The opening bowlers again got early breakthroughs but found it difficult to keep the runs down. Kash Rabanni and Andy Baker replaced the opening pair, with the plan to restrict the run rate. Kash bowled accurately but was unlucky not to claim any wickets. Andy failed to control the run rate any better but managed to take wickets at vital moments, ending up with 5 wickets. The final word in the 5th’s bowling performance can from Steve Tall who took 2 wickets in 4 balls as a reminder to the captain of his abilities (the 5th’s leading wicket taker in 2008). Although the 5th’s had bowled well, chasing 214 would not be easy, particularly with the batting performances so far this year.
After his marathon 15 over spell (a 7 pace run up and he complains about 15 overs!) Andy Baker opened with Blakey, with the knowledge of a strong batting line up behind them (in theory). A well balanced partnership, Andy strong on the off and Blakey strong on the on, caused the Orsett bowlers all sorts of problems. They put on 130 before Blakey got a straight one that failed to bounce and was out for 53. As so often happens soon after Andy had a lapse in concentration and was bowled for 63. With 75 still needed did the 5th’s have the batting strength they thought they had? The simpler answer turned out to be yes, as Jonathan North and Sam Tall eased to the target with some fine strokes, with Jonathan running out of time to get his 50 by just 4 runs.
At last a batting performance to be proud of and a second (well third as Harlow called off) consecutive win for the 5th’s.
