Old Parkonians 4th v Chingford Cricket Club Sat 5th on Sat 24 Jul 2010 at 1:00
Match was Drawn

Match report This summer has been fantastic, yet another hot Saturday afternoon and the 5th’s travel to Old Parks with the confidence that their batting has improved considerably since the humiliation of the opening game of the season. To demonstrate the new confidence in the teams batting, Bill wins yet another toss and decides to bat.
Another slow and solid opening partnership from Brewer and Blake, sees Chingford past the 50 mark and a long way to putting the demons of the opening game behind them. They push on to 75 before Old Parks manage to break the formidable partnership and Steve is the one to go in the 22nd over, trying to increase the run-rate. Another 50 partnership follows in the next 10 overs, with Blakey dominating the scoring. An out of sorts Andy Baker manages just 3 scoring shots in 10 overs before succumbing to the pressure and providing catching practise to gully. Blakey continues to push on and looked to be on for a well deserved 100 before missing a straight one and giving the umpire no choice but to raise his finger! Although, I don’t think everyone saw it that way. The third 50 partnership (in 6 overs) of the game, between Kash Rabbani and Andrew Betts, took the total quickly to 200 and a very high score looked on the cards. With Amjad and Andrew continuing the onslaught the 5th’s reached 265, a fine effort considering the first 21 overs produced only 63 runs.
Now it was the turn of the bowlers to see if they could improve from previous weeks and force the victory. Jack Piper and young Harry Holdsworth were entrusted with the new cherry and produced a fiery opening spell. Harry eventually got the important breakthrough of Old Parks most dangerous batsman, caught at square by the ever young Amjad. The opening pair were replaced by the spin duo of Baker and Brewer who began to slow the run-rate down but found the batsman reluctant to play their shots. Although the 5th’s had plenty of runs to play with, it began to look like Old Parks had the technique to see the game out for a draw. A couple of wickets, one a piece for the spinners, gave some hope but the solid batting returned and the few chances that came just fell out of reach of the fielders. Another couple of wickets came at the end but in the end the 5th’s bowlers couldn’t force the win.
