Match report The home fixture with Orsett was anticipated with great hope, after the convincing victory earlier in the season. It started well with Bill winning the toss and deciding to bat. Another good opening partnership from Mike Blake (59) and Steve Brewer took the 5th’s to 121 off 24 overs and set up the base for another good total for the 5th’s. However, once the first wicket went, 3 more followed quickly and Chingford had to regroup with Sulesh Singh (on debut) and Andy Baker (60) taking them to 190 with 10 overs to go. Andy was joined by Steve Tall for the final assault and they pushed the total towards 250 before Andy went for one shot too many and had his middle stump removed. Steve kept going and Chingford made a very respectable 255, which would allow them to attack the Orsett batsman.
For the second weekend running Chingford got an early wicket, as Jack Piper hit the ground running, producing one of his best displays of the season (so far). Despite the good start Orsett managed to score quickly early on and forced an early introduction of Andy Baker to try to slow the scoring. The inspired captaincy saw 2 quick wickets fall, with Jack taking his 3rd wicket and Andy his first of the day with the pitch taking a large amount of spin. However, just as the game was turning back towards Chingford, the heavens opened and forced the teams off.
Play did resume but the weather had made the pitch almost unplayable and the game drifted to the end and an amicable draw.
