Match report South Loughton called off the fixture during the week and this alternative fixture was found through the conference. With the first team match called off, Ben MacGregor cam in for John Woodland. The weather was chilly but dry. Skippers agreed to a 40 over match with no bowler bowling more than eight overs. On a good looking track with a slow outfield, Carver won the toss and chose to bowl first. Their opening pair played with fortune and managed an openiing stand of around 60, kept in check by tight bowling from Joslin. Haigh and Hart kept up the pressure which resulted in David Joslin juggling and taking a catch at deep square leg. Ben MacGregor came on to bowl and bowled through his eight overs at a key time. Further wickets fell as their batters struggled to accelerate the scoring. A useful 8th wicket partnership helped push their score up to nearly four runs an over at the end.
After tea Peters and Peter Joslin took singles at will, putting on 46 from the first 12 overs. Joslin, having been dropped twice was caught by the keeper down the leg side. David Joslin was dropped and then bowled for 10. Harborne got a good ball second ball. After 23 overs Chingford were well placed at 84-3. However, Peters was out, hitting a long hop to fine leg, and Behling was bowled in the same over. Five runs were scored in the next five overs and the asking rate shot up to over 6 runs an over. The rest of the batting perished in an attempt to score quickly. What looked like being a close game ended four overs early.
The result apart, we benefitted from having a useful run out in decent condiitions so early in the season.
