Match report The 3rd team joined the 2nd team on a trip to Harlow to play a side who had been promoted and relegated in the previous two seasons. Paul Hart, skippering in the absence of Dan Carver, won the toss and chose to field. Harlow were playing a very young side which our bowlers were keen to bowl at. However, their openors managed to delay the appearance of the first colt until the score had reached 72-2. The third wicket annoyingly put on another 82 runs, with the number 3 scoring 65. Chingford had become ragged in the field, Chippy dropped a couple of catches and the out cricket had to cope with a very uneven outfield. Stephen Thorne made the key breakthrough, dismissing both batting partners. From then on, it was a batting procession with wickets coming from one end.
At 23-3 in reply, Paul Canham nervously walked to the crease to join Myles Joyce. Chingford still had plenty of batting to come and this pair were always able to ensure that the asking rate never got above 4 an over. Joyce got to his 50 off 47 balls. When he dragged one on, he and Canham had put on 115. His 75 coming from just 65 balls, with 2 sixes and 12 fours. Canham now came into his own, reaching his 50 off 69 balls. Reaching 73, he hit his 76th delivery, a high full toss to square leg. He had hit 11 fours. At 180-5, the match was as good as won. Peters brought the scores level with his third four and won the match in his usual style, with a six. He made 18 off 13 balls.
