Match report Paul Hart captained the side in the absence of Dan Carver. The return of Peter Shawyer made up for the continued absence of Andy Chipchase, still in the 2nds. Richie Coulson was still injured and Michael Blake came into the side. On paper, not a bad 3rd team. Rain had fallen during the week and the track looked very muddy.
Ardleigh Green decided to chase and we got the worst possible start when Joyce slashed a long hop second ball to gully. Lambert and Shawyer then batted excellently on a difficult track, against tight bowling and both benefited from being dropped early on. They took the score to 78 at which point, 4 wickets fell for 13 runs and the heart of the batting had gone. Peters and Shawyer stopped the rot. Shawyer reached his 50 (in 113 minutes off 95 balls) including a 6 and 4 fours. Haigh was batting nicely but ran out of partners. On a difficult pitch, a score of 170 would have been a challenge.
An early wicket got us going nicely with Offord bowling particularly well. The second wicket did not fall until 86. Alas we dropped more catches than Ardleigh Green and were not able to put the necessary pressure on their middle order.
The victory margin of 8 wickets probably flattered Ardleigh Green and the 2 points we got for our day's efforts was a paultry return. The outcome has almost certainly ended our promotion prospects as the top 2 sides, Ardleigh Green and Hutton are now well clear of Harlow and ourselves.
