Match report Man of the match before we'd even started was Mark Campbell. His efforts in getting a team out saw now fewer than six players making their senior debuts against an experienced Mathews side.

With the Captain held up en route our senior pro won the toss and inserted the hosts on a wicket that looked like it would do a bit. In a rain interrupted innings Mike Blake toiled away unchanged at one end to return 4-65 from 19 while at the other end wickets were captured by Tom Patmore and Steve Tall. An impressive 60 from Mathews no 7 together with some shots all round the park from a Farmer Giles character pushed the total to 183-7 beyond the 140 it should have been. Still our young guns
stuck to their task well and performed creditably.

Inevitably our lack of experience was showed up in our batting and only Tom Patmore (30) with some lusty blows and Steve Hart (23) made double figures. Although we were within 7 overs of hanging on for the draw, that would have been an injustice and we were all out for 78 .

Finally I'd add that Mathews were lovely, sociable people and a pleasure to play against . If you're reading this guys we hope next time we play
you we'll give you a better game.
