Match report A conference fixture was arranged against a side called Grange. A number of the Sunday regulars were unavailable. Darren Ross made a rare Sunday appearance and had a good game, captaining the side, bowling himself at the tail picking up the wickets of No 7 and 11 and batting himself at No 4, coming in when the earlier batsmen had done the hard work of seeing off the opening bowlers, and helping himself to 46 runs.
Apart from Darren Ross, most of the other members of the side had something of a game. Graham Carpenter ran through the middle order, unleashing his variety of full tosses on the unsuspecting Grange batsmen. Chingford held four outfield catches out of 4, all taken by players aged 14. Tiger Peak, pulled off a run out with a direct throw at the stumps from deepish extra cover. On seeing the opposition arrive, Harry Piper had predicted that we would win the game 'in the outfield'. He was probably right.
Ross and Fernandopulle came together at 42-2 and put on 71 runs. Peters, Fernandopulle and Ross played some nice shots, so they informed the rest of us. There were few witnesses to their efforts due to the closeness of the 4th Test at Trent Bridge which saw England win by 3 wickets and go 2-1 up against the Aussies. After the Test Match ended, everyone came out to watch Danny Milligan hit the winning runs with a four through mid off.
