Chingford Cricket Club Indoor Sat A v Wanstead B on Sat 16 Oct 2004 at
Chingford Cricket Club Won 1 wicket

Match report Wanstead B were one of only three teams that Chingford beat last season. However, the increased strength of Wanstead B this season, matched by our own increased strength, meant that this match was going to be far from one sided. Chingford bowled first in the personification of Kerry Marriott. This was 'Chucky's first cricket match since May and his first indoor match for a couple of years. However, he immediately struck a good line and length, giving the batsmen no easy runs. Taking the second over, Nick Shawyer, who has played virtually no indoor cricket before, struggled with his line to start with, before settling in. Early pressure produced a rash stroke from the batsman, and Shaun McMurray made a difficult catch look easy. That seemed to be the only thing that Shaun made look easy as he struggled with his length in his first over, and was taken off. Ben Macgregor found a tighter length and pressure on the batsmen was maintained. Macca Meade, bowling firstly off spin and then pace, stopped the batsmen accelerating when they wanted. Chucky came back to close out the innings with the most economical figures and the most wickets. (2-18) A score of 127-4 off 12 overs was perhaps just below par for the PM centre, even against a yellow ball with a seam that came off the pitch slowly.
Greg Hales, who had kept wicket, opened the batting intent on a steady start. Having dispatched the first ball for 6, we was caught hitting at mid off soon after. At the other end, Shaun, whose indoor experience was in the 8 man Aussie rules version, was looking at ease until padding one to point, to be given out caught. Thanks for coming Shaun, that'll be £5. Ben joined Macca and the two kept us well ahead of the asking rate. Macca, who had never played indoors before, picked up the game quickly and reached 25 and retired. However, neither Chucky nor Nick lasted long and Macca was back out with Ben again. Still well ahead of the rate, Macca hit the ball at mid off and Ben was left to score the last 25 by himself. With no wickets to play with, Ben showed a captain's cool under pressure. He had reached 44, when with 2 balls left he scored the winning run. Victory by 1 wicket.
