Match report A key game against table leaders and defending Champions, Walthamstow A. Chingford were still without Greg Hales, so Graem Peters came into the side to keep wicket for his firt A team game of the season. Shaun McMurray was also absent but fortunatly Mac Meade was back in his place. James Hill apart, the early batting struggled. Ben MacGregor joined Hill, intent on staying at the crease. Once Hill got to 25 the pressure seemed to lift off Chingford's remaining batting; Peters came in and scored a quick 22, enabling Chingford to take the initiative. Marriott's innings was also brisk and Hill's return to the crease was short lived. MacGregor batted out the innings to help Chingford achieve a more than respectable score.
Marriott and Meade bowled the first 4 overs, during which their opening bat nicked a Marriott delivery straight to Peters. The batter did not walk and eventually reached his 25. MacGregor proved to be a touch expensive, so he turned to Hill to bowl for the first time this season. Hill managed 2 key wickets which helped keep in check the Walthamstow run rate. Although Walthamstow were scoring ahead of the asking rate, the pressure on their lower order was begining to show and they continued to lose wickets. Their opener was back at the crease and even with Marriott bowling the last over, Walthamstow were favourites, needing only another 4 runs for victory. Chingford only needed one wicket and with just 3 balls left, Walthamstow still needed 3 runs to win. The batter edged the ball into the off side corner and they went for the run. MacGregor however swooped on the ball and threw down the stumps to run their last player out.
