Match report Greg Hales skippered a side featuring 4 of last season's regulars in himself, MacGregor, McMurray and Peters. However, the latter was only playing when Angelo Bass failed to arrive in time. Experienced indoor player Billy Rhone was playing his first match at the Peter May. The opposition, Frenford had narrowly won promotion last year from division 2.
Hales blasted his 22 off just 12 deliveries. McMurray was also quickly into his stride and duly reached his 25. Itm wasn't until MacGregor came to the wicket that Shawyer started to see some of the strike and he swiftly reached 25. He was soon at the wicket again to join the returning McMurray and these two pushed the score up to 148 when McMurray was last out off the last ball of the inniings. The total of 148 easily beat the previous season's highest score of 128 in the season opening match against Wanstead B.
Frenford from the very first over ensured that they were always up with the scoring rate and ahead of it at points. Wickets failed to come early enough to put pressure on the batters. The odd half chance did not result in a wicket and MacGregor bowled the last over with Frenford needing just 2 runs to win. By common consent, this was not a very good bowling performance with too many wides. McMurray was the exception and without his efforts today, Chingford would have looked a bit ordinary. Newly promoted Frenford did show the nouse with the bat that has obviously developed from batting in the tougher condidtions at Wanstead. On the face of it, they will fare better than their promoted colleagues, South Loughton A.
