Chingford Cricket Club Indoor Sat A v Loughton on Sat 29 Oct 2005 at 8.45
Chingford Cricket Club Won 4 wickets

Match report The second league fixture against Loughton was a key game; Loughton had won their opening fixture and Chingford were desperate to avoid a two loss start to the season. Mike Lyon, having made his indoor debut the previous week for the C team, played his first game at the Peter May Centre in place of Billy Rhone. Peter shawyer came into the side instead of Graem Peters to give an extra bowling option.
Lyon's first over went for 10 but McMurray, with his first delivery, clean bowled one of the openors. The other opener took a liking to Lyon's second over hitting him 3 times to the boundary wall. However, off Lyon's last delivery he claimed the No 3 batsman, bowled. This proved to be the innings turning point as Loughton with 34 from 3 overs started to slow down. Tight bowling from McMurray and Hales reined them back to 54-2 at the 6 over mark. Hales missed a hard caught and bowled chance offered by the remaining opener who then retired as MacGregor missed a sharp run out chance. This batting cushion should have settled Loughton's later batters but Hales kept them in check and Lyon returned to pick up 2 more wickets, including a hard hit shot well taken by Hales. Despite the opener returning and having all the strike at the end, MacGregor tied him down and then ran him out in the last over. This was a quality bowling performance from a quality unit. bowling half this good would have won us our opening fixture.
Shawyer and Hales took 17 off the first over with clever batting. Shawyer was cruely run out when Hales straight shot struck the bowler before hitting the stumps. McMurray carried on where he left of last time and these two scored freely. Hales retired with 25 off just 14 balls. McMurray was caught and bowled off his 11th ball but the score was 68-2 and victory virtually assured. MacGregor and Shawyer closed out the game comfortably in the 7th over.
Despite 4 of the team being out drinking the night before at the League Dinner, Chingford showed themselves to be a well organised and well focused side while Loughton's attitude was more like a bunch of blokes gingerley tucking into their fried breakfast. Skipper Greg Hales was the star performer, and with his team mates providing some strong wind behind hime, the Hales Sales will carry the side into Novemeber with a lot more optimism.
Chingford move up the table and are now 5th. (see league tables page)
