Chingford Cricket Club Indoor Sat A v Walthamstow A on Sat 07 Jan 2006 at 11.00
Chingford Cricket Club Won 2 wickets

Match report In the absence of Hales, MacGregor, McMurray and O'Sullivan, a makeshift side was selected, including for the first time this season, Niraj Odedra and Nick Shawyer who took on the captaincy. At the match start time, only 4 Chingford players were present. No Odedra and no Meade and with no way of contacting either, Peters was hastily drafted and Chingford, asked to bowl first, took the field with 5 players. Peters took the gloves and Paul Shawyer prepared to act as 4th bowler. Fortunately Meade appeared and took the field in the 3rd over. Peters passed the gloves to Shawyer and Chingford's bowling and fielding improved after an appalling first three overs which conceded 43 runs. This was mainly down to Lyon bowling a tight line and once he had loosened up, Meade. A fortunate run out broke the opening pair and from then on Walthamstow lost wickets regularly and the scoring rate dropped. No batsman reached retirement but the No 3 was still at the wicket. After 11 overs, Walthamstow were 110-3. However, O'Reilly's last over yielded 23 runs and one wicket and Walthamstow posted a good score. Chingford enjoyed the support of Odedra, who finally appeared during the 9th over to cheer the side on.
A steady start was required and in reply, Meade and Paul Shawyer gave just that. Both reached retirement. At the half way stage, Lyon had been dismissed but Chingford were just about up with the asking rate at 65-1. O'Reilly more than made up for his last over with the ball by compiling a 20 including a six and a four. After he was out, Meade was joined by Shawyer and the two resumed their opening partnership. 28 were needed off the last 2 overs and then 12 off the last over. Meade finished the match with a six off the 4th ball of the last over.
This gives us two consecutive victories over Walthamstow A, following last season when we were the only side to beat them. Defeating Walthamstow this season is not so unique, but for us to do it without so many A team regulars was an excellent display.
In other games, Wanstead A won again and are unbeaten and comfortably lead a pack of 4 clubs (including Chingford) battling for 2nd place. Chingford play one of those clubs, Newham A on 21st January. Support welcome.
