Chingford Cricket Club Indoor U15 A v OLD PARKONIANS A on Thu 01 Dec 2005 at 8.00
Chingford Cricket Club Won 2 runs
Match report
Another win for the under-15's in a high-scoring match where our batting outshone our bowling and fielding. In previous matches, tight bowling and lively fielding made tonight's performance look a little less consistent, but with bat in hand and some good running between the wickets, the colts eventually overcame Old Parkonians with nearly 2 overs to go.
For the third time in three matches, Alfie won the toss and elected to bowl first. Sam's first spell of 2 overs yielded only 8 runs while Will at the other end couldn't keep the runs down despite bowling a good length - the openers decided to get after him, and succeeded. Charlie was the pick of the bowlers with his in-swingers, and while no-one bowled badly, there were too many wides and no balls making a significant difference to the score at the end. A couple of run-outs redeemed a less sharp than usual fielding display with Sam's catch off Anthony's bowling giving the only wicket to be credited to a bowler in the innings.
A total of 113 looked like it might be difficult to get, but Jay's and Alfie's unbeaten half century opening stand gave us the platform we needed, Alfie's clean hitting and Jay's nudges keeping the fielders on their toes. When the openers retired on their respective 25's, Sam came in and continued the onslaught before being caught from a rebound. For once, Anthony didn't contribute with the bat, but Charlie's and Sam's running between wickets finally clicked, taking us closer to the target. Charlie was well-caught one-handed off the meat of the bat, and Will was unluckily run out. The two retirees (is that a word?) returned with 19 runs needed off 3 overs. They only needed 1.2 overs to finish the job.
A good win leaves the colts firmly in contention, with some crunch matches coming up in 2006.
Happy Christmas!
