Match report Chingford Cs for their second match were up against a young Hainault side returning to the league after a few years absence. Both sides had lost their opening fixture. Mark Campbell took over the captaincy from Paul Hart who now plays in the Ds. Mike Lyon (playing his first indoor cricket match) and Adam Campbell came in for Hart and the absent Haigh. Because the first game started late, the 3rd game had to be reduced to 10 overs a side.
Rashid miss timed a drive early on and Coulson played across a straight one. Lyon went for a run that was a bit tight which brought Campbell in to join Joslin. Chingford were still in a reasonable position, assuming that Joslin got to his 25, however, Campbell called him for one that was a bit tight and he did not make it. Once Campbell junior was dismissed, Campbell senior had the job of batting out the overs to ensure a competitive score was made. 79 off 10 was probably a bit above par but not much.
Joslin was pulled out of the attack after just one over and Coulson and Lyon were given the job of bowling the 3 over spells. Coulson's second over turned the game. He had built up the pressure with a containing line and then made the breakthrough thanks to stumper Campbell. However, Hainault were ahead of the asking rate and wickets were desperatly needed. Up stepped Nasser Rashid to bowl an over which included the mandatory wide, the overstepped no ball and the head high no ball. The rest of the over was spot on and he took two wickets; clean bowled and stumped, again by Campbell. A couple of run outs and Hainault were down to their last player. With 2 overs left and only 12 runs required Joslin was brought back on to bowl. The last man drove the ball high to Lyon at mid on and the game was won.
Chingford's win was a good moral booster and puts them a third of the way towards achieving their minimum season target. Three wins out of 8 games should ensure they avoid relegation.
