Match report In the absence of Mark Campbell, Richard Alston came up from the Ds to keep and captain the side. Nick Shawyer was playing his first ever game at Wanstead. (and first game of the day) Goodmayes had, earlier in the season, beaten the Bs in a close game.
Chingford won the toss on a cold morning and chose to field. Luke's first delivery found the edge, and Stephen Thorne, attempting a catch off the wall, juggled it and dropped it. Luke and Nick bowled very tidily but without taking a wicket. The Goodmayes openers knuckled down to survival and after 4 overs, Steve and Peter came on to bowl. The scoring rate started to pick up but at the half way stage, they had only 42 on the board. Soon however, both openers reached 25 and retired. The scoring rate started to drop again and Chingford took enough wickets to build the pressure but not too many to allow the openers back in too early. With the opening bowlers returning, the score was never allowed to get out of control. Goodmayes were happy with their score against the cold ball.
Nasser and Richard looked to build the platform as their openers had. Their method of doing this was completely different. Instead of threes we saw sixes and ones. The advantage of bowling first with a cold ball was then lost as the now swarmer ball got split and had to be replaced by a cold ball. Nevertheless, both got their 25s and retired with Chingford ahead of the asking rate. Nick Paul and Luke scored their runs by running. Peter played the key innings. After a slow start he worked the ball around comfortably and with the help of Steve, steered us to victory with 6 balls to spare.
This was a good performance from the lads and now leaves the Cs in with a chance of avoiding relegation. They have two matches left, one against the bottom side. The harder match comes next week. Perhaps more importanly, they denied 9 points to a side competing with the Bs for promotion.
