Match report Needing a win (or a tie) to ensure Division 2 cricket next season, The Cs took on already relegated Woodford Green. Mark Campbell had a good batting side but only four bowlers to choose from. Paul Hart, in for Steve Thorne, opened up after Campbell won the toss. Along with Nasser Rashid, the batters were not able to get a quick start. Rashid broke through in his second over thanks to a good Alston keeper catch. Taylor was introduced for the fifth over and tempted the other opener out of his ground for Alston to stump. Rashid finished his spell, only giving away 4 in wides and no balls. The scoreboard eventually started to tick over quickly, despite Taylor taking a catch off his own bowling to bring the third wicket. Their No3, was now settled and playing his best, working Peter Shawyer around for threes and reaching his 25 to retire. Shawyer got the other bat out lbw, bringing back the No3 to partner the weak No6. Hart's final over, the 11th to the No6 was key in restricting the opposition to a manageable score. He had all 6 balls at him, which left Shawyer to bowl the last over to the No3. Left with little option other than take a three, the No3 ran out the No6 and eaked out another two threes by innings end. Chingford were satisfied with progress at the halfway stage.
Alston and Rashid opened but Alston was bowled in the first over. Rashid and Campbell matched the asking rate without ever managing to make the game safe. In quick succession, Campbell retired and Rashid was out. Taylor joined Shawyer at the wicket. Shawyer had steered the Cs home with his batting in the two previous matches and looked capable of doing the same again. Taylor, who started off well, went for a tight run and was run out at the start of the last over. This seemed to be a touch panicky with the target so close. The calm and mature figure of P Hart walked to the crease at No6. First ball, nicked to the keeper, panick now officially on. Campbell returns with 3 balls left and with a ball to spare, scores the winning runs with a scampered three.
