Match report The under eleven indoor season finally came to an end last Saturday when the team met Ilford in their cup semi-final.
Ilford won the toss and decided to bat first in the hope of posting a big score. Ilford, with their greater experience, started confidently but slowly, putting on 42 runs before the first wicket fell to a run out by William Armstrong-Fox in the seventh over.
Tom Goodland helped the Chingford cause by taking the second Ilford wicket in the eighth over (caught by William Armstrong-Fox) and he then helped dismiss the third wicket with a catch off Alfie Leachman's bowling. At this stage with the score on 54 in the ninth over Chingford were in the ascendancy. However, although Daniel Lawrence and Andrew MacGregor combined to run out a fourth Ilford wicket, the greater experience of the Ilford team told when they scored 33 off the last three overs, finishing with a total of 94.
The Chingford innings got off to a good start with Andrew MacGregor and Daniel Lawrence putting on 28 before Daniel was caught for 10, which included a straight 6. William and Andrew then carried the innings forward to 51 in the eighth over before Andrew was bowled for 12. Unfortunately the remaining wickets fell cheaply and when William was out for 13 the Chingford innings was still 23 short of the target for victory.
Whilst the team were disappointed at losing they can take heart from another competitive performance against a vastly more experienced side. If the early catches that came their way had been taken and bowling had been a little more disciplined towards the end of the Ilford innings, then they might well have pulled off another surprise.
