Match report Away to Hainault saw a difficult decision for skipper Rob Runciman after winning the toss as there were two counteracting factors. Firstly, the start was delayed by rain for half an hour and secondly there was a juicy strip of moisture on a length at one end. Deciding to try to knock them over quickly, Chingford endured the worst of conditions in the field as wind and drizzle made bowling and fielding difficult. The ball did not do too much off the pitch for the seamers and some lucky escapes for the opening batsmen saw Hainault start solidly. The introduction of James Runciman in to the attack brought rewards, but the scoring rate was always maintained at four an over. Declaring after 50 overs on 232/6, and with time not on Chingford's side, victory was seemingly out of reach. With the conditions improving, the ball started to do more off the pitch and despite a fine fighting knock of 64 n.o. from Richard Alston, Chingford were never in the hunt. Some adventurous strokeplayat the end from Steve Piper ensured that Chingford reached 150 and gained some consolation on what was a miserable afternoon for cricket.
