Chingford Cricket Club Sat 3rd v Billericay on Sat 22 Jul 2006 at 1.30
Chingford Cricket Club Won 130 runs

Match report Second from bottom Billericay should not have been too much of a problem for third placed Chingford but the home side were missing a number of players, notably captain Stephen Thorne, who was selected for the 2nds. With Dan Carver and Paul Canham absent, Graem Peters therefore became the fourth player to captain the 3rds this season. The bowling attack was bolstered by Richard Offord, surplus to 2nd team requirements and Andrew Chipchase was back to help with batting and bowling.
Losing the toss, Chingford batted first on a pitch with bounce. Miles Joyce fended the third ball to gully, bringing Alfie Taylor, another 2nd team disgard, to the wicket. In the fourth over of the innings, Chipchase knicked a cut to the keeper and the following ball, Truptesh Patel slashed a catch to cover. Chingford were 8-3 and in serious trouble. Peters joined Taylor and these two set about rebuilding. Scoring was always easy but a key moment came when rain all but forced the players from the field. Billericay with a damp ball posed less problems and with the recovery in full flow, they turned to spin. The scoring rate increased but wickets started to fall. Peters was out caught in the deep with the score on 134. Taylor and Rashid perished in a similar vein and the job of grinding out a decent score was left to the lower order. The 10th Chingford wicket fell at the start of the 46th over with Chingford registering 188, a score whose value was hard to determine on a wicket offering tricky bounce for the bowlers. For the record, Taylor's 50 came off 69 balls and his 98 off 105 balls.
After tea, the damp wicket was bathed in sunshine and the pitch appeared to misbehave more as it dried. An early bonus wicket came in Chipchase's first over. He picked up two more wickets to leave Billericay reeling. A dogged fourth wicket stand resulted in the brief removal from the attack of Chipchase to be replaced by Peek's offies. A breakthrough by Offord got things back on track and Chipchase returned to compete for the wickets. Offord's two wickets came from a catch in the gully by Peek and a catch at short leg from Taylor. Chipchase had found the right line and length and was getting the ball to swing and cut. He took all of the the last five wickets, three bowled, one caught keeper and one caught slip. This was Chipchase's best bowling analysis since joining Chingford. With Harold Wood getting only 2 oints, Chingford are now back in second place and this Saturday play 3rd placed Harold Wood.
