Chingford Cricket Club Sat 3rd v Harold Wood on Sat 29 Jul 2006 at 1.30
Chingford Cricket Club Lost 7 wickets

Match report The 3rd XI found themselves without Joyce, Chipchase, Taylor, Patel and Offord for this key battle for 2nd place. However, Joslin, Blake, Noori and Baldock bolstered the side which was led by Graem Peters. Losing the toss, Chingford batted first and misfortune immediately struck when Joslin ran out Williams (29-1). Joslin and Peters scored freely until Joslin chipped a shot to mid off (49-2). Noori joined Peters at 59-3 and these two put Chingford in the driving seat and when drinks came after 26 overs we were 121-3. 8 runs later, Peters was out, having hit 10 fours in his 58. With the slow bowlers now on, Noori and Hart pushed the ball around with ease and Chingford were well placed at 171-4 off 38 overs. A score of around 230 was within our sights, but Noori was caught in the deep. His knock included a six and 5 fours. Rashid was run out by Hart's call for a tight single, while Peek, Richie Coulson and Blake all fell trying to hit the slow bowlers. Hart was left the task of trying to get to 200 with John Coulson at the other end, however he was caught and bowled in the 46th over. Chingford had lost their last 6 wickets for only 20 runs. The pitch had played well enough, apart from the odd ball bouncing.
After tea, Chingford got the ideal start when Peters took a diving catch to hold onto a Coulson induced edge in the innings first over. The second wicket pair played positively and also took advantage of some lose bowling. Both hit balls in the air but always out of the reach of the fielders. With plenty of overs in which to bat, and a high scoring start, Harold Wood stayed in control. The second wicket came with the score on 108 when Baldock found the edge with his first ball. Baldock was able to find the lift and movement in the pitch that their opening bowler did for five or six overs that threatened to bring us back into the match. He found the edge of the No 2's bat but Peters spilled the catch. After some tight bowling from Blake, Peek came on to try and get another breakthrough which he managed, bowling the No 2. At 149-3 the pressure was on to try and get wickets but Harold Wood's batters kept their heads and their wicket intact.
