Match report Basildon and Pitsea had already secured second place, and memories of the earlier fixture in which they produced some excellent attacking batting suggested thsi woudl be a challenging fixture. So it proved when batting first we lost three early wickets. Old hands Harborne and Woodland steadied things and edged us closer to three figures. Howver, a further flurry of wickets including the late arrivign captain left us preacariously positioned at just over a hundred fro six. Howver, John Woodland nursed the tail along (literally in the case of Queenie Hart who needed a runner after beign strcuk by a fearsome delivery on the knee) to the respectability of 191, completing his own century in the process. Although Basildon did not have the same team as previosuly, this was well within the scope of their attacking batsmen. However, they were prevented from gettign away to a quick start by some exceptional slow bowling (actually that should read exceptionallly slow) from Messer Tall and Barker, with Tall making the intial backthrough. Adam Campbell opened the breach further by cheaply removing the Basildon captain, and the experinced pair of Harborne and Hart began to work theri way through the rest of the order. The luckwas with Harborne on thisoccasion as he evetnaully settled into a groove which claimed five wickets, eventually seeing us home with fifty runs and about ten overs to spare. A satisfying way to end the season, earning a third place finish. This shows how tight the league actually was, as befor the prevsious match we were still not mathmatically safe from relegation.
