Chingford Cricket Club Sat 3rd v Botany Bay on Sat 29 Apr 2006 at 1:30
Chingford Cricket Club Won 183 runs

Match report Dan Carver replaced Paul Canham as captain, Botany Bay replaced St Margaretsbury as the opposition and most importantly, the Peter May Centre replaced the Met Police Ground as our home pitch. Everyone arrived at the ground early to savour the new atmosphere and inspect the new facilities. The disappearance of the tea lady meant that the tea interval lasted 40 minutes. This apart, it was a pleasant new experience.
Carver's side was totally different from the side Canham led the previous week with only Canham, Hart, Peters and Offord avoiding being picked for the 4th XI. Botany Bay 3rds were not in the same class as us. If they had been up against last week's 3rd team it would have been a good contest. If this week's 3rd team had taken the field at Bentley, we would have had a good contest then also. So don't blame Blakey for the fixtures, blame erratic early season availability. (Oh alright then, if you must, blame Blakey)
To the game itself, Chingford were thankfully asked to bat first and Botany Bay gave the new ball to a young leg spin bowler. A rusty Joyce, who likes the ball coming onto the bat with pace was not amused. What the bowling was like seemed not to matter to Chipchase who batted like a man who had scored a 100 the week before. (Chipchase of course had scored a 100 the week before) These two put on 105 for the first wicket when Joyce found a mid wicket willing to catch his hoick. Chipchase by then had already reached his 50 off just 47 balls and then been dropped twice at long on and square leg. The loss of Shawyer and Noori was hardly noticed as the already high scoring rate was increased. Carver joined him at the crease to see him to his inevitable second 100 in as many weeks. Carver then ended his partners innings following a running mix up that saw both at the same end. In a league match, no doubt Carver would have sacrificed himself but the skipper clearly fancied a bat today and Chipchase had to go. Carver entertained his team with some aggressive hitting including a first six at Peter May, that was in distance, a bit 'Peters at Harlow'. Chingford declared at his fall after about 35 overs.
In the field, Alfredo Taylor got Chingford off to a great start, picking up and throwing impressively to secure a run out. Bowling, Offord got carry to the keeper even if he did not get much bounce. More importanlty he got carry to first slip where Canham took the batters edge. After Offord bowled the No4 he was removed from the attack to give another bowler a chance. Up stepped Canham to bowl some medium pacers and get a couple, bowled and caught behind. There was something of a batting revival in the late middle order as Botany Bay batters threatened to reach double figures. Taylor broke the resistance with a gully catch to Chipchase. With 9 wickets down, Hart, who had contrived not to take a wicket in 6 negative overs, deprived a Chingford bowler from ending the match with a direct throw run out from mid on.
