Match report Canham was back in charge for the last pre-league season friendly. Just 5 of last week's team avoided being called up to the 2nd team. Many of the 4th teamers called in were under 20 rather than over 40. As a result, a youthful Chingford took the field to support the new ball pairing of Offord and Baldock. Both swung the ball towards slips but neither batter was good enough to knick one. A few too many loose deliveries saw Hart replace Baldock but not before Harborne had clung onto a catch at mid off. Earlier, Harborne had demonstrated remarkable inginuity when he persuaded the skipper to bring him in to silly mid off, only to drop a hard catch next ball. The No 3 dominated a second wicket stand of 75 but could not avoid hitting a Hart full toss to a diving Canham. Another 2 Hart wickets put Chingford on top at 108-4. Canham and Peek each took 2 wickets with Canham dismissing the remaining opener with another full toss. Peek's first wicket resulted from a full length diving catch in the covers by Hill. Hil rounded the innings off with a wicket from his second delivery. Chingford had bowled and fielded excellently and on a good batting wicket, Gidea Park were about 50 short of a decent score.
After tea, Joyce and Peters prepared to take on the bowling but neither got to the crease and the match was abandoned due to rain.
