Match report North Park fulfilled the Friday of Cricket Week fixture for the first time and although fielded with only 10 players for most of their innings, batted with 11. Stephen Thorne captained the side. Alfie Taylor and Paul Shawyer without seeming to be trying terribly hard, scored at the rate of 10 an over and the 50 came up inside 7 overs. They took the score past 100 with Taylor's 50 coming off 39 balls. Shawyer, having reached his 50 suffered the embarrassment of being bowled out by his father. The pair had put on 142 for the first wicket. Taylor cruised to his 100, his first ever, off 76 balls. The rest of the innings was all about giving a bat to the non-bowlers and setting up a declaration score after about 44 overs.
Whitfield and Hales shaired the new ball and when Whitfield bowled straight, looked likely to take wickets, however, he churned out about a dozen wides, many that tested the agility of Shawyer behind the stumps. Shawyer was in good form and collected three keeper catches. He was also tested by some wayward bowling from Will Thorne, but like Whitfield, he too found his radar to hit the stumps a couple of times. Everything seemed to be going wrong for North Park's batters and on a decent wicket, they struggled. Victory came with an easy run out, 6 overs into the last 20.
Like yesterday, the match was not a close contest, but will forever be remembered as the match in which 15 year old Alfie Taylor scored his first 100. Don Taylor's wallet played a blinder in the bar afterwards.
