Match report Chingford’s under elevens season started last Sunday with a good win against Loughton. With the previous week’s fixture being washed out the boys were fired up for the game.

Loughton won the toss and chose to bat on a damp pitch and wet outfield. They found run making difficult against Chingford’s bowling and in his second over William Armstrong-Fox opened his season’s account when the Loughton opener was well caught by Andrew MacGregor. A further wicket fell to William when he bowled the other Loughton opener in his second over.

Chingford continued to dominate the Loughton batting and Andrew MacGregor, Daniel Lawrence, William Evans and Harry Turnpenny all contributed with wickets in what was a good all round bowling performance. At the end of Loughton’s innings they had accumulated just 58 runs for 6 wickets.

The difficult batting conditions continued through the first part of Chingford’s innings and although Andrew MacGregor and Daniel Lawrence stayed at the wicket, after the early dismissal of William Russell for 1, by the fifth over only 8 runs had been scored. By the tenth over Chingford’s score had moved onto 15 at which point they suffered another blow as Andrew was caught off a slower ball as he tried to accelerate the run rate.

William Armstrong-Fox was next in and supported by Daniel they scored more freely taking the Chingford total rapidly towards the victory target of 59. After Daniel was out caught, again off a slower ball, Ben Gordon and William continued to push the score on and past the required total. Ben finished with 11 not out, and William top scored with 32 not out, including five fours.

This was a very encouraging start to the new season and the experience gained through the winter indoor season was undoubtedly a factor in the team’s first success. A number of boys showed improvement from last year and with new additions to the team there is great anticipation that this could be a good season.
