Match report The under elevens turned in another fine performance on Sunday against Roding Valley to make it three consecutive wins this season.

Played in the traditional cricket format, Roding Valley won the toss and decided to bat on an extremely hot morning. Bowling was difficult for Chingford and their opening bowlers found it a challenge against the Roding Valley openers, who soon put on over forty runs, before they were retired to give other batsman an opportunity.

At this point captain for the day Andrew MacGregor, turned to his slow bowlers and the Roding Valley run feast began to dry up. Several well worked run outs helped to contain the runs and Connor Love chipped in with a good bowling spell, taking two wickets for two runs. At the end of the Roding Valley innings they had reached 107 for 6 wickets off their twenty overs.

William Russell (7) and Daniel Lawrence (29) opened the Chingford innings and again gave the team a good platform to challenge the Roding Valley total. They played sensibly, building their innings with some well taken singles and some exceptional boundaries. After William was bowled Andrew MacGregor (9) carried the innings forward with Daniel, matching the required run rate as overs were used up. Following Daniel’s retirement and Andrew’s dismissal to an awkward delivery, William Armstrong-Fox (10), Luke Lycett (4), Tom Goodland (9) and Connor Love (11) all played mature innings in their contributions to the overall total. The winning runs were hit by Charlie Hempsted in the last over as Chingford passed the Roding Valley total for the loss of seven wickets.

Yet again the under elevens have proved what an improved side they are this season. The team’s fielding was particularly good and they played as a unit supporting each other throughout the match. A special mention for Daniel Lawrence for his fine innings of 29, which laid the foundations for the Chingford win. Also thanks to Luke Kerr and Tom Goodland for keeping wicket in Ben Gordon’s absence.
