Match report The Under 11s recorded their fourth consecutive win on Sunday as they beat Wanstead for the second time this season in a game of cricket played in the terrier format.

Captain for the day William Armstrong-Fox won the toss and decided to field in the early heat of another glorious summer’s day. William opened the bowling with Daniel Lawrence. They were soon successful taking three wickets in the first three overs to leave the Wanstead batsman reeling. The boys maintained their control of the Wanstead run rate for the first half of their innings with tight bowling from William Russell, Harry Turnpenny, Luke Lycett and Harry Houldsworth.

The turning point for Wanstead came after the drinks break, when the Chingford bowling became a little erratic, allowing Wanstead to build on the poor start to their innings with a strong finish reaching a total of 255.

The Chingford innings started disastrously as three wickets fell in quick succession. Batsmen found it difficult to score runs as the wickets continued to tumble. After eight overs of the Chingford innings the team were well behind the asking rate. However good knocks by William Armstrong-Fox (13) and particularly Daniel Lawrence (17) re-established the Chingford innings as the middle order recovered the initiative. The Wanstead total was passed soon after with good contributions from Andrew Kelly (4), William Evans (3) and Harry Turnpenny (7) with Chingford’s innings closing on 268.

This was another good result for the team, which has increased their confidence yet again. Their fielding was excellent and their teamwork showed through in their support for each other. A little more accuracy is however required to reduce the number of extras given away when bowling.
