Match report The under elevens’ winning run came to an end on Sunday, when they lost in a rematch against Roding Valley, whom they had beaten several weeks earlier. The match was played in the traditional cricket format.

Captain for the day, Daniel Lawrence unfortunately lost the toss and Chingford were put into bat on an overcast morning with a damp pitch. Roding Valley soon made inroads into the Chingford batting with three wickets falling with only eight runs on the board.

The Chingford innings was stabilised when Alfie Leachman and William Armstrong-Fox came to the wicket as they put on around thirty runs for the fourth wicket. Alfie’s knock was particularly good as he top scored with 18, which included two fours. However once Alfie was out the innings again faltered and finally came to an end with the total on 70 for 9 wickets.

The Roding Valley innings got off to a solid, but unspectacular start as the opening batsmen steered their team towards the Chingford total. Tight bowling by Daniel Lawrence (7 for 2 off three overs), Harry Turnpenny (1 for 0 off two overs) and Jack Rhodes (6 for1off one over) kept Chingford in the hunt for a while, but eventually the Roding Valley batsmen overhauled the total with three overs and seven wickets to spare.

This was the under elevens’ first defeat of the season and will serve as a warning that nothing can be taken for granted in the game of cricket.
