Match report A series of memorable events on a day when for the first time in living memory (although Blakey claims to remember a previous occasion in 1890, sorry 1990) Chingford fielded five teams on a Saturday.......the sun shone all day, Vidi scored an excellent century, the youngest player on the field took 2 wickets for 1 run in 4.1 overs, England beat Jamaica 6-0, and to cap it all, the skipper was given out LBW to a ball missing leg stump only to be told by the umpire at tea that the ball was in all likelihood missing leg stump, but it was such a crap shot, he gave it out anyway!

Hockerill IV's won the toss and put us in, and the centurion and Kim put on 90 in next to no time before Kim was given out LBW for a composed 37, keeping Vidi company as he stroked the ball to the boundary with regularity and a flourish. Extras were doing well, but Terry, Tom and Steve went cheaply, before Anthony joined Vidi to take the score past 200, playing beautifully straight and sensibly. Neither Anthony nor Vidi were ever troubled, and the skipper declared when Vidi reached his milestone, leaving plenty of time to bowl them out, and still get home in time for Dr Who.

Tom, lively and bowling straight, and Adam, equally lively and tempting Hockerill with some wider deliveries, ripped through the top order with 3 wickets apiece. The Aussie debutant, David, also impressed in his 4 overs, getting movement off the pitch and 2 wickets, while young Will bowled a line good enough to earn him an LBW and a bowled. The fielding was good throughout, with plenty of encouragement going round the ground.

All in all, a fine start to the V's career, overpewering an admittedly inexperienced, though willing, opposition. Nevertheless, you can only beat what's in front of you. Bring 'em on!
