Chingford Cricket Club Indoor Sat C v Fives & Heronians B on Sat 28 Oct 2006 at 10.50
Match was Tied

Match report In the absence of Nasser Rashid and Richard MacGregor, the Cs called in Ben MacGregor and Stephen Thorne for their second match against newcomers, Fives B. The oppo looked a useful side but Stephen Thorne, with his second delivery, got one to come back and bowl one opener. The other opener tried to hit Alfie Taylor's leg-spin for six but the bowler jumps high and was able to claim a catch above his head. Taylor then pulled off a great stop which resulted in a run out and Fives were in a lot of trouble. The No3 battled his way to 25 which helped get them back into the game. Ben MacGregor was held back but when he came onto bowl proved too good for the latter order and the No3 was back in and left to bat alone. Adam Campbell, who had battled well to contain him helped put on the pressure that enabled MacGregor to get him out and leave Fives with 2 overs un-used.
75 is not a good score at Wanstead, but just about a competitive one. Graem Peters and Mark Campbell batted, intent on using the overs but both struggled against slow bowling. Campbell fell to a run out mix up and 2 balls later, Taylor fell to a self indused run out mix up. MacGregor, who struggled against the spin, succumbed to a stumping and suddenly the pressure was on Chingford. Even though the scoring rate had not been quick, it was ahead of the asking rate and when Campbell junior struck a straight six, the pressure seemed to lift off the batting side. When Peters retired, Chingford were favourites again, needing 24 off the last three overs. Thorne helped keep the scoreboard ticking over but was run out taking on a tight three. This left just 5 needed off the last over with Peters back at the crease and on strike. With 5 balls left, it was all left to Campbell to do. A quick three was run, leaving 2 to win off 3 balls. Campbell hit the ball to on-side and the pair set off for the run. A kind bounce helped the fielder pick the ball up cleanly and he threw to the bowlers end. However Campbell made his ground and victory was ours.
The Directors Cut (Alternative Ending)
Campbell rushes to beat the throw at the bowlers end but was given out by the Umpire to leave the result of the match as a Tie.
Fives B looked like a useful side having a bad day with the bat. When your bowlers leave you the task of scoring just 76 to win you should be favourites, regardless of the quality of the bowling. To fall short was a dissapointment. When you don't need to score quickly, to have 4 players run out and one stumped is careless. Then again, 7 points against this side is probably a good result.
