Chingford Cricket Club Indoor Sat C v Harlow Town on Sat 31 Mar 2007 at 9.45
Chingford Cricket Club Won walkover

Match report The last game of the indoor season for the Cs had us pitted against Harlow Town one place below us in bottom position. Extra effort was made in an attempt to ensure 6 Chingford players turned up on the day, with the result that 7 Chingford players turned up. This was 7 more players than the opposition so we took the 10 points and arranged a game against one of the sides who had just played. South Loughton A obliged and as luck would have it, they had a spare player kicking his heels, so a 7 a-side friendly was played with the 7th fielder being made to field at slip. Chingford's players perhaps had the advantage in this 7 a side format as 6 of the side had played in the 7 a side Chingford Tournament in December. [Nurd Mode On] Interestingly, Edwin Jabbari and Chris Baldock were turning out for Chingford for the first time this season so they had the unique experience of playing twice during the season but on neither occasion did they play in a six a side game. [Nurd Mode Off]
There were no additional restrictions on the number of overs a bowler could bowl but as it happened, both captains used 6 bowlers bowling 2 overs each. Not only did 12 players get a descent bowl but all 14 players had the chance to bat, with Steve Tall having two chances. Opening the batting for Chingford, Steve was at the non-strikers end for the first ball and called Richard Coulson for a run which he declined. The result was Steve was run out by a direct throw to the bowlers end. By agreement, Steve was given a second opportunity to bat after the Chingford No7. However, when Steve returned to the wicket for his second innings, he was bowled first ball! Steve was then replaced at the crease by Richard Coulson who returned to continue his innings following his 25 retirement early on. Apart from Anthony Peek who managed a brace of sixes, he was the only player to score comfortably. Richard had to bat out the last over as last man standing and hit two straight sixes before being dismissed off the penultimate ball. Chingford had thus scored 77-7 off 11.5 overs. South Loughton in reply, batted for exactly the same number of balls - 11.5 overs. All the Chingford bowlers bowled tidely, which made up for some fielding errors which let the opposition off the hook. We managed to take regular wickets with Edwin Jabbari claiming three. Anthony Peek had the job of bowling the last over with the last pair at the wicket. Presssure gave us a run out leaving a talented young batter to try and steer his side home. With 2 balls remaining, they needed 2 to tie and 3 to win. The fielders came in closer to prevent the run but he drove the ball past the fielders for 4 to win the game.
This has been a difficult season for the Cs. We had a close game which was tied, 5 games where we were well beaten and 2 'friendly' games at the end of the season which were close and more enjoyable than any of the actual league matches that we played.
