Chingford Cricket Club Indoor Sat B v Newham VI Form A on Sat 18 Nov 2006 at 8.45
Chingford Cricket Club Lost 61 runs

Match report In the absence of post-op skipper Thorne, the reins were handed to Rhone, who declared that although he was fit play (I'll let that reasoning go unchallenged for the time being) he could not keep wicket as he could not bend. Paul Shawyer was thus drafted from the As. So too was Ben MacGregor, who along with Shawyer, would therefore play in both games. The opponents, Newham 6th Form A have been one of the stronger teams over the past two seasons and had started this season well. Their opening batters struggled to deal with Sharma change of pace and MacGregor's control, but survived. Sharma started well but when his body fully realised that it was before 9am on a Saturday morning and it was being asked to bowl, rebelled against it's owner during it's second over and Patel was drafted into the attack. Without having lost a wicket, Newham had taken control. A rash shot from one of them (on 23) at a wide one from Patel resulted in a stumping for Shawyer. Patel struggled with wides in his second over and after the first of two missfields from Sharma's body, was withdrawn from the attack. Rhone took up the bowling slack himself, and not needing to do any bending, bowled a good first over. Meanwhile Taylor had come on at the other end as was getting turn and awkward bounce. The remaining opener had retired and Chingford got on top of the lower order. The retiree returned to bat the last two overs with the number three who was starting to look good. They finished the innings well and managed to post a par score.
The Bs needed a solid start but Patel was cleaned up early on. Sharma never looked comfortable against some good seam bowling and fell soon after. Taylor joined Shawyer and these two started to play with comfort and the score was ticking along just nicely when Taylor was surprisingly out. When MacGregor fell almost immediately suddenly things had gone horribly wrong. Rhone joined Shawyer and stayed with him for the rest of the innings, however, for most of that, it was only as a runner. Newham had a useful bowling side who bowled a good line. It is unusual for someone to be dismissed 'bowled' indoors and for 4 of Chingford's side to get out in this manner reflects the virtues of bowling straight. The batting capitulation was a dissapointment as we had done well enough with our weaker bowling suite.
