Match report Last season, Nick Shawyer returned home from University for a weekend and ended up playing for the A, B and C teams all on the same morning. It is the sort of thing that a young man can do. For the older guys we need to be a bit more considerate. Thus Mark Campbell was only required to play two games on this morning. He was spared the keeping duties for the Cs at Wanstead and spared Rhone the keeping Duties for the Bs at Peter May. This meant that the Bs had the added bonus of Rhone in the outfield, who at the end of Wanstead Bs innings had claimed 2 catches, one of spectacular note. Campbell's dash across North London wasn't able to see him make the start of the innings. So Rhone donned the gloves and a Wanstead player generously stood in as sub-fielder until he arrived. Whilst Chingford A faced a Wanstead B team of Wanstead A standard, the Bs were more fortunate in facing a B side of equal ability. However, Wanstead's total of 108 with a red ball, was an under par score. Taylor (bowling seamers) and Thorne putting on the breaks after a solid start.
Patel and Taylor got the reply off to a terrific start and from then on Chingford never looked like losing. Taylor replaced Patel after the latter retired. The crash of lower order wickets including the running out of the returning Patel merely brought Shawyer and Taylor back together at the crease and victory came soon after.
