Chingford Cricket Club Indoor Sat A v South Woodford A on Sat 27 Jan 2007 at 9.55
Chingford Cricket Club Won 4 wickets

Match report A key mid table battle against South Woodford with defeat likely to put the losing side in the relegation battle. Hales opened the bowling and delivered an excellent spell, bowling to his 3-1 field. MacGregor also bowled well but his figures suffered from some power hitting from one of the openers. This opener was on 24 and set to retire when O'Sullivan and Hales each dropped him. He got his 25 and from this point onwards, South Woodford never got back onto the front foot. Whitfield massively improved on his bowling performances this season and in his 3 overs did not bowl a single wide. In fact,no Chingford bowler bowled a wide all innings. Taylor and Whitfield were able to take advantage of tentative batting from the lower order and wickets fell to leave them with 2 batters, including the returning opener. They paced themselves ready for a final onslaught but the opener fell and the remaining batter was put under pressure by Whitfield. Taylor dismissed him with the first ball of the last over. This was Chingford As best bowling performance of the season. Had the catching been better, the match would not have been a contest.
O'Sullivan, hoping to improve on 2 successive ducks, and Shawyer scored at the required rate. When Shawyer was run out going for a sharp 3, it hardly seemed to matter. After 3 overs we were 32-1, ahead of the rate. O'Sullivan reached retirement and Hales joined Whitfield who was already into his stride. Hales blasted his way to 15 but perished attempting another six. Whitfield, on 24 and starved of the strike, reached his retirement. This brought MacGregor in with the chance of scoring the winning runs. With 2 needed off 11 balls, MacGregor skillfully ducked under a bouncer which struck the back wall as the umpire signalled No Ball. Player of the Match - Rob Whitfield: Ben took the pressure off him by bringing him on first change. Thanks to the O'Sullivan/Shawyer opening partnership, there was no pressure on him coming in at No3. However, Rob delivered today with bat and ball with an asuredness of someone who has played a lot more indoor cricket than he has.
