Match report Stephen Thorne withdrew at the last minute due to a football injury and skippered the side from the bench. Rob Whitfield, ignoring the particular difficulties in strokeplay in the Havering league drove three boundaries in the first over and collected a three to give Chingford an excellent start. A more circumspect Tom Hayden was able to settle in and wait for something he could hit. Whitfield perished in the manner in which he had scored his runs but had given us an excelent platform. When the slower bowlers came on, scoring runs became more difficult. The rest of the batting struggled and got out. Fortunatly Hayden had reached his retirement and returned to partner Thorne. When Thorne got out, Hayden ensured he used up all the overs to enable Chingford to post a competitve score.
Whitfield picked up a wicket in the first over. Thorne, in his first over, having been flat batted for 6, enduced a repeat shot from the No3 and deflected his shot into the hands of Taylor who took a good reflex catch. Pressure was applied to the 3rd wicket pair and a bad call ended with Peek running out the remaining opener with a direct throw. Peek and Taylor turned the screws and scoring runs became almost impossible with Taylor beating the bat on a regular basis. Peters picked up a couple of catches including the last wicket to fall and Chingford won with overs to spare.
Chadwell Heath B were 3rd before today, so this was a good win. This was our second win of the season. A third win should ensure we avoid relegation and we have two matches left.
