Chingford Cricket Club Indoor U13 A v South Woodford on Fri 15 Dec 2006 at
Chingford Cricket Club Won 1 Wicket

Match report South Woodford won the toss and elected to bat. Although opening bowlers Alex Gordon and Elliot Saggers put the ball in the right areas the batsmen ran extremely well and got off to a very fast start. First change bowlers William Armstrong-Fox (2 wickets) and Andrew MacGregor (1 wicket) then entered the attack and brought the run rate down. The last four overs saw the retired opener return and go on to get about 50 to enable South Woodford to reach a good score of 107 for 5. However Beth MacGregor, Elliot Saggers (1 wicket) and Ben Gordon all bowled well in the closing stages to prevent the score from running away and kept Chingford in the game. Catches were taken by Ben Gordon and Elliot Saggers. Ben also got a run-out.

In reply Beth MacGregor and Andrew MacGregor opened the batting. Beth hit the first ball for four but tight bowling from South Woodford restricted the openers to a steady start off the first four overs. Then Beth exploded into action hitting two sixes. The score at the halfway stage was 56 for 0 wicket and shortly after both Beth and Andrew retired. The other batsmen kept the scoreboard ticking along with both Elliot Saggers and William Armstrong-Fox hitting fours. At the start of the penultimate over 18 runs were needed with three wickets in hand. Beth MacGregor returned but was out caught off the side netting quickly followed by William Armstrong-Fox. This left a last man stand with a returning Andrew MacGregor needing to score 14 off 7 balls. With three balls left 10 were still required then complete chaos ensued! Andrew hit the ball against the side ball and ran just beating a direct hit. The ball ricocheted for an overthrow and William Arnstrong-Fox (running with Andrew) quickly called for another run which the batsmen just made. So six scored by Andrew but the ball had also been called a front-foot no-ball thus two more were added to the score meaning eight runs had been scored off the delivery. This left two required off three balls. An edge behind for a single followed by a bye saw Chingford win with a ball to spare leaving Andrew MacGregor undefeated on 40.

An excellent game which saw the advantage swing between the teams on a number of occassions. Most impressive was the way all the Chingford team responded to the pressure at various times during the game.
