Chingford Cricket Club Indoor U15 A v West Essex A on Fri 19 Oct 2007 at 7:00pm
Match was Tied

Match report Chingford U15’s opened up their Essex Metropolitan indoor league winter programme with a pulsating `tied match’ against West Essex. In a real see-saw battle which saw both teams firmly in the driving seat at various points of the match only to let it slip at crucial moments, honours were even after this twelve overs per side encounter.
Clearly fired up from the off, Chingford were away to a flier as opening fast bowler Alex Gordon ripped out the middle stump of the highly dangerous West Essex opener with his first ball of the evening. The batting side then struggled to get to grips with the raw pace of Aidan Woodcock, who used his height very effectively to extract extra bounce from the lively indoor wicket.
After surviving the initial onslaught, West Essex eventually found their feet to get the scoreboard ticking over, before Nihal Noori (with his first ever indoor league wicket) and Beth MacGregor broke through in quick session to take the wickets of their opponent’s threatening middle-order. West Essex then proceeded to accelerate once more, before an athletic run-out by Alex steadied Chingford’s nerves.
Set a score of 118 to win, Chingford clearly had their work cut out in their quest for victory, particularly against the hostile pace bowlers in the West Essex team. James Hallworth set his stall out from the off to take the attack to the opposition, using his brute strength to hit two huge sixes within his courageous total of 32 runs (having returned to the crease after earlier retiring `not out’).
With the match evenly poised, both teams sensed victory at the mid-point of the innings. Beth, Alex and Nihal played steadily and chipped in with some useful runs in middle-order partnerships with James, who continued to play aggressively.
Rezwan Rehman anchored the innings with a resolute 18 runs during a frantic final few overs, sensibly blocking the dangerous and potentially `wicket taking’ deliveries. This seemed to frustrate the West Essex bowlers and, in their desperation, the number of `extras’ they conceded kept the score-board rattling along and up with the required run rate.
With eleven runs needed to win off of the final over, this match was there for the taking by both sides. Unfortunately for us, Chingford were unable to chalk up the winning run from the final delivery; James being cruelly run-out by a deflection off of the bowler just when it looked like he would steer his side home. This meant that at `stumps’, both sides were left to pick up a share of the spoils. In retrospect, this was a fair result for both teams.
