Match report Chingford under 15’s Colts followed up their opening fixture tied match against West Essex with a comfortable win over local rivals Buckhurst Hill `A’. Leading the way for Chingford was captain Beth MacGregor, who excelled with both bat and ball, as part of a superb all-round team effort.
Electing to field first, Chingford restricted Buckhurst Hill to 88 runs from their allotted ten overs as a result of some very economical fast bowling from Alex Gordon, Aidan Woodcock (two wickets), Beth MacGregor (one wicket) and Zeeshan Rehman. Two magnificent catches from Beth and Zeeshan early on halted the initial Buckhurst Hill momentum, and when Aidan produced a clever run-out it was clear that Chingford had a good chance of securing victory against their very dogged opponents.
For the second match running, James Hallsworth set a blistering opening pace for Chingford with the bat, launching the ball to all areas of the field with apparent ease. His quick-fire 24 runs included two sixes, to add to the two `maximums’ he produced in the first fixture. Beth very sensibly anchored the innings from start to finish with some exquisite stroke play, intelligently using all areas of the field in her undefeated 23 runs. She timed her effort perfectly to keep ahead of the run rate and was very ably supported by Aidan, whose cleanly-hit 17 runs gave the innings much-needed acceleration at a crucial time. Rizwan Rehman kept his nerve in contributing seven (not out) very valuable runs towards the end, keeping the scoreboard ticking over in support of Beth, as they steered Chingford home with a full over to spare at the close.
Chingford look forward with plenty of optimism to their next match against Roding Valley on the 30th November.
