Chingford Cricket Club Indoor U15 A v Wanstead A on Fri 04 Jan 2008 at 6:00pm
Chingford Cricket Club Lost by 3 wickets

Match report Chingford under 15’s Colts suffered their first defeat of the season as local rivals Wanstead held their nerve to chalk up a 3 wicket, to ease ahead of the Forest-siders in the race for the Essex Metropolitan indoor league title.
Having been asked to bat first, runs were at a premium for Chingford during the early stages as the Wanstead pace bowlers maintained an impressive line and length, reducing the batsman to seeking quickly taken singles rather than boundaries. James Hallworth was unable to `launch’ the innings with his usual array of blistering shots to all areas of the field as he was smartly caught at cover point. This denied Chingford the early acceleration that would be necessary to force a positive result.

Beth MacGregor was unlucky as she edged a lifting delivery onto her own stumps as Chingford struggled for a foot-hold, which allowed Wanstead to tighten their grip on this match. However, the introduction of Aidan Woodcock steadied the ship and frustrated the bowlers as he fought valiantly to retain his wicket. This contributed to Wanstead increasing their number of `extras’ during the latter stages of the innings, thereby boosting the Chingford total towards a figure of respectability.

Unfortunately for the batting side, Rizwan Rehman and Alex Gordon fell cheaply and it became increasingly difficult to keep the scoreboard ticking over; the Wanstead spin-bowler providing a subtle variation to the all-seam attack.
Zeeshan Rehman performed excellently for his 11 runs, proving to be a useful foil to Aiden who finished with a stubborn nine runs, as Chingford reached 66 all out at the close.

Chingford’s opening bowlers, Alex Gordon and Aidan, began superbly with Alex removing Wanstead’s dangerous opener with the third ball of the innings. The two also combined to produce a run out for the second wicket, which reduce Wanstead to 32-2 after five overs. However, Chingford’s joy with short-lived as Wanstead settled themselves, pinching a number of quick singles in easing to 60-3 going into what turned out to be the final over. Inevitably, Wanstead very carefully made their target, finishing this context with two overs to spare.
Chingford can take many positives from this match as they performed very competently in all aspects of the game. Sometimes your opponents are just too good on the day and this was one of those occasions. They will look forward, with great optimism, to their next fixture against South Woodford on the 25th January.
