Match report The Chingford under 15 colts team fell to their third defeat of the winter season at the hands of league leaders Fives and Heronians. Chingford played exceptionally well on the night, but they came up against an inform team who played to their full potential while bowling and batting.

Having been put into bat, Beth received a `lifter’ off of a full length delivery from the Fives opening bowler in the first over. Unfortunately for her, she was only able to edge it to the wicket-keeper who made a competent catch around shoulder height. James Hallsworth remained at the crease and set his stall out to attack the opposition, looking for the boundary at every opportunity.
Aiden Woodcock and James made steady if unspectacular progress until James launched a short delivery towards the ceiling. As the batsmen hesitated over a possible quick single, James was run out for a useful 21 runs. Rezwan then came to the crease and continued to profit by clipping the balls off his legs behind square. Aiden scored a steady 20 runs, anchoring the innings before being caught behind with the score on 61.

Unluckily for Alex Gordon, he was run out without facing a ball while chasing a sharp single. Zeeshan was also out without troubling the scorers, which left brother Rezwan in a ‘single wicket’ stand against the highly confident and accurate Fives bowlers. Rezwan was able to give the Chingford total an air of respectability with a last over onslaught which yielded 18 precious runs, within his total of 33 not out.

Chingford’s final score of 84 for 5 looked a little fragile during the early stages of Fives’ reply as the batsmen confidently stroke the ball around while taking no chances. Chingford’s opening bowlers Alex and Aiden bowled tidily, but were unable to make the all important breakthrough. Beth’s left arm swing offered Chingford some variety in their bowling, but the Fives’ batsmen held the upper hand at the halfway stage when both batsmen retired not out.

Zeeshan tried his hardest to get Chingford back into the game, but Fives held their nerve and moved menacingly towards their runs’ target, which they achieved in the 10th over of this 12 over per side encounter.

Chingford currently lie in mid table and look forward to their final match of the season against Old Parkonians when, hopefully, they should get back to winning ways. A third or fourth place finish in the top flight would represent a good season’s work for the Under 15’s.
