Chingford Cricket Club Indoor U15 A v West Essex A on Fri 19 Dec 2008 at 9:00
Chingford Cricket Club Won by 34 runs

Match report The Chingford Under 15 team returned to winning ways after two straight losses, with a comprehensive 34-runs victory over rivals West Essex.

Having been asked to bat first, it was essential that the Forest-siders got off to a good start against what is one of the weaker teams in the top flight. However, despite looking positive early on, Zeeshan Rehman was unable to take advantage of a slightly wayward bowling attack and he was caught cheaply for two runs. Beth MacGregor moved the ball around very sensibly to all areas of the field and Alex Gordon further frustrated West Essex with some clever leg-side flicks. Both players took every opportunity to keep the scoreboard ticking over with quickly taken singles and Beth progressed smoothly to an initial unbeaten 25 runs.

With Alex keeping the momentum going, Andrew MacGregor attempted to dictate against the West Essex bowlers and was unlucky to `play on' to a ball, having scored four runs, that was swinging deceptively. This brought William Armstrong-Fox to the crease, who was obviously confident from his unbeaten half-century whilst appearing in the under 15 `B' fixture the week previously. He produced a very useful 15 runs before being bowled around his legs.

When Alex retired unbeaten on 25 runs, Beth returned to the crease although was shortly out while looking for quick singles, being caught for 26 runs. Chris Sear continued his vastly improved batting throughout the winter, making effective use of his long legs to scamper between the wickets for a quick-fire seven runs not out, and Alex returned to the fold, finishing on 30 not out as Chingford managed a healthy 101 for four wickets at the close.

The West Essex batsmen started brightly and marched their way to forty without loss after the opening spell from Zeeshan and Chris. William and Andrew then combined to put the brakes on the score, both taking a much needed wicket each. Two further run outs settled the Chingford nerves as it became apparent that West Essex had too much to do in chasing their target of 102 for victory.

Beth and Alex bowled very economically at the end of the innings, both taking a wicket as Chingford, in the final analysis, ran out comfortable winners. The opposition were all out for 67 runs.

Chingford look forward to keeping up their good form in the next match against Bancrofts on the 23rd January.
