Chingford Cricket Club Sat 1st v Ardleigh Green on Sat 18 Jun 2005 at 1330

Match report
After bowling out near rivals Ardleigh Green for 237 Chingford batted poorly and were lucky to escape with a draw. Winning the toss the visitors elected to bat and began steadily with Jonathan Powell (20) and Ian Russell (40) putting on 68 for the first wicket in 16 overs, but then both departed within a run of each other to two fine catches by Greg Hales off the bowling of Odedra. Ryan Harris then bowled an excellent 8 over stint which included the valuable wicket of Roy Smith for 24. At 103 for 3 and with both the danger men back in the pavilion Chingford felt very comfortable until Uddin(52) and Glassberg (40) put together an aggressive partnership which was mainly responsible for the all out total of 237. Once again it was the spinners who took the honours with Odedra taking 5 for 101 and McMurray 4 for43. Chingford seemed well on course for victory when the opening partnership of Jamie Hill(48) and Ben MacGregor(39) put on 83 for the first wicket without alarm. Ardleigh Green armed with three left arm spinners started to put the preesure on with some very accurate bowling. This was rewarded as the middle order batting succumbed to a series of injudicious strokes. Chingford called off the run chase when the 7th wicket fell on 172 and 66 was still required from the last 7 overs.However 2 more wickets were to fall before Kerry Marriott was required to bat out the last over which he did without a problem. Chingford finished on 189 for 9,the draw meaning they held on to second place in the table.
The following is from the Ardliegh Green Website;
Last Pair Frustrate 1st XI
Misbah Uddin batted superbly for 52 as Green totalled 237 against 2nd placed Chingford on Saturday.
Although wickets fell at regular intervals, the home side retained 2nd place with the last pair hanging on for a draw.
