Chingford Cricket Club Lost 7 wickets

Match report Chingford's unbeaten league season was ended during a trip to struggling Chelmsford. Rain had preceded the arrival of the Chingford side and on winning the toss, Chelmsford had no hesitation of inserting the visitors on a damp pitch.
Chingford's openors, Ben MacGregor and Jamie Hill saw off the opening attack and were looking comfortable at 56-0. Eddie Lawrence, in his third over got thr first wicket thanks to an excellent gully catch from Semple. The very next ball Semple repeated the feat to dismiss O'Sullivan and the very next ball Odedra was caught at second slip. Lawrence had changed the match with 3 wickets in 3 balls. MacGregor tried to mount a recovery but was 5th out at 81. Some clean striking from Greg Hales and Sam Kinon helped Chingford along but Lawrence was now receiving good support from Ian Hare, who dismissed both batsmen to finish with 3-22. The innings however, belonged to Lawrence who extracted awkward bounce from the pitch to finish with 7-54.
Thurston and Prowting set about Chelmsford reply against the slow bowling of Bass and Odedra. Without the need to score quickly, they carefully built a score, putting on 52 before Prowting was out. Thurston remained at the crease and became the only player to pass 50. His innings of 54, was well supported by Jones, Culley and Iliffe. Chelmsford never looked like losing, and came away with a valuable 18 points.

Chelmsford bounced back from their loss at Hadleigh last week with a 7-wicket victory over high-flying Chingford on Saturday.
After some heavy overnight rain, Chelmsford elected to field first on a damp wicket at Chelmer Park. Some good early bowling went without reward, particularly for the luckless Jon Culley who saw 2 chances come and go in one over. The game changed with the introduction of Eddie Lawrence. Using the conditions to full effect, Lawrence quickly got into his stride with a magnificent hat-trick (all caught in the slips and gully), the first of which was a fantastic catch By Rob Semple. Chingford were stunned as 56-0 was suddenly 56-3 and it was very nearly 4 wickets in 4 balls as an edge went just wide of gully. As Lawrence wreaked havoc at one end, Ian Hare was introduced to the attack to good effect and provided the perfect foil for Lawrence as the runs dried up. Extracting prodigious movement, Lawrence was making life very difficult for the batsmen and soon claimed 2 further wickets as the score teetered on 81-5.
Some big hitting counter attacking from Kirnon (37) provided some resistance but Ian Hare was rewarded for his accurate bowling with his wicket caught in the deep and two others as he finished with 3-23 from 12 overs. Lawrence picked up two more to finish with tremendous figures of 7-54 from 17 overs.
Chasing a target of 140 on a bowler-friendly wicket was never going to be easy, but a quality opening partnership of 52 between Matt Thurston and Nick Prowting set Chelmsford well on their way. Both showed maturity beyond their years against the turning ball. Prowting was the first wicket down for a good 25.Thurston continued in the same vein, combining excellent defence with punishment of anything loose. Jon Culley (20) provided useful support and struck some useful boundaries in his elevated position up the order.
Thurston went on to complete a well-deserved 50 before falling for 54. Having done the hard work it was left to Paul Jones (20 not out) and Tom Illife (14 not out) to see Chelmsford home with over 18 overs to spare.
A terrific win sees Chelmsford climb to 5th in the table and looking to make it back to back wins with a trip to Orsett next Saturday.
