Match report DESPITE this five-wicket defeat at the Paddock by Chingford, Fives maintained their Division One status after securing 12 points. In a match delayed by rain Fives, desperate to claim nine points to be certain of avoiding relegation, were relieved to win the toss and gain maximum batting points, by scoring 200-5 after good batting from Gary Edwards (69) and Danny Stevens (51).

With a possible 38 overs to bat Chingford began solidly putting on 65 for the first wicket in 17 overs when debutant Marc Fletcher departed for 20. Odedra, Alston and Hales all departed cheaply and at 91-4 the odds looked more likely for a Fives victory. A partnership of 51 in seven overs between Angelo Bass (37) and opener James Hill (63) turned the tables but when they departed the target was still six an over. Batsmen Daniel (17), Macgregor (13) and Rhone (11 not out) enabled the visitors to scrape home by one wicket with two balls to spare. The hosts' Chris White and Terry Ballard secured five and three wickets respectively but the result proved irrelevant as fellow strugglers Orsett were beaten by Ardleigh Green. Fives skipper Daniel Stevens said: "Hopefully now we can put the campaign behind us and build for next season."
